55 - Capital Punishment - Where is the Logic?

I admit it, often I was not sure how I felt about capital punishment; was I for it or opposed to it? Today I am clear. My disgust and revulsion towards the death penalty are absolute and clear. It is not something any country calling itself civilised should ever countenance. It is barbaric, and it diminishes all of us.

Does, for example, the death penalty reduce homicide, the murder rate in any given jurisdiction? That question is easily answered. All we need to do is take the United States and enquire whether murders are less common in states where there is capital punishment versus states where there is no such practice.

The answer is a resounding NO! So, if the death penalty does not act as a deterrent to capital crime, then what purpose does it serve?

You tell me. Because, as I write, a young woman in Tennessee is lying in a hospital bed in a coma, from which she may or may not recover fully. She has been put there by the state's judiciary and the people who support this barbarity.
